In this section we will practice the Apache web server installation, test and use it, the Java JDK (JVM) and then proceed to PHP installation on Windows XP Pro and Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition. The Apache will be used as a test web server for other application software that we will install and use later such as PHP parser. The Java Development Kit (JDK) will be used in many practice, exercise and tutorials later on such as compiling and running the Java programs. Furthermore, many other open source application software such as Eclipse PHP Development Tools (PDT) and NetBeans, the Java IDE will need the JDK to run even during the installations. Apache for Windows

  1. Install, test and use Apache on Windows XP Pro SP2++. We start with Apache because during the PHP installation, Apache’s config file location or path will be asked.

  2. Install, test and use Apache on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2.

Java JDK

  1. Install, test and use Java JDK on Windows platform (Java 2 Standard Edition - J2SE) with some basic Java tools info, the fundamental of Java programming and Java code samples.

PHP and Eclipse PHP IDE (PDT)

  1. Install, test and use PHP together with extensions on Win XP Pro SP2++.

  2. Install, configure, test and use PHP with extensions 'installed' separately on Windows 2003 Server SP2 Standard Edition.

  3. Install, test and use PHP IDE, the ECLIPSE PDT.

  4. OpeningWordpress in ECLIPSE PDT.
